I love to tinker… and when I get a chance to tinker in the way I get to tinker with out bikes, it’s the best. Not only do I get to buy new toys, but I get to install them, and make our riding experience better… What’s better than that!

So for those of you who are curious about what I’ve done.. Here it is..
I won’t go into details of my old Burgman 400, but most of it is the same…

For Nicole’s Bike I’ve installed a StarCom1 System. It’s the StarCom1 Advance. I’ve used an extension for her headset connection, so that she has a place to plug her helmet headset in just in front of where she sites, and on the right of the handlebars inside the fairing. It’s nicely protected there and also invisible. The control box itself is under and behind the seat, just in front of the tail light assembly. It’s the perfect spot for it.

There is a little buzzing noise when she uses it, so I will install the StarCom1 Nose Filter when it arrives.

On the Burgman
- I also have the StarCom1 system installed. The installation was a lot more difficult. As soon as I got my new bike home, I took everything appart to install it. The wonderful thing about the 650 is that the area around the handlebars is covered in a plastic Fairing, but there is a lot of empty space behind it – so using the Bulkhead extension kit from StarCom1, I installed the bulkhead connection right into it. The unit itself sets in front of the seat, where the toolkit normally rests. It’s the perfect spot for it.

The wires all had to come from under the seat, and follow a path on top of the engine, then up the side of the fairing, and into the console area…

- Talon Alarm – I also reinstalled the Talon Alarm, which was far more difficult than the last time, since last time I just helped do the installation. Also, the fellow from Talon made custom harnesses to install on the 400. It made it easy to connect, and wonderful to uninstall as all I had to do was disconnect the alarm, and plug the rest of the connections back in… It took less than 20 minutes to uninstall it, and with absolutely no sign that it was ever there. With this install I had to find the correct wires for the lights, power etc. I’m happy to say I did do it however and it works perfectly!

- Powerlet Plug – I’ve installed a Powerlet plug just to the left of the StarCom1 connection. I wired it to the accessory plug inside the glove box… This way there is never any chance of things draining the battery. It’s going to be used to power the GPS unit, but could also be used to power heated clothing or other accessories.
